It's nice to not feel I need to hide this part of me anymore. It makes doing this much easier...

So I just came back from Anthrocon 2009, and I must it was a blast. Seeing friends I've rarely seen, meeting new friends, and just overall having a good time. There was a little unexpected drama to be had...but nothing that couldn't be handled easily (and it turned out to be easier than I expected...thanks Orms!).

So totally going again next year. I'm in the process of commissioning a fursuit so that will make it even for interesting and fun. I saw a few suiters doing exactly what I want to do in suit and so that pushed me over the edge.

There's only one thing that sucks about the whole weekend...It's over :(

PCD this year is gonna suck...

For those of you who were at trivia...Robert Downey Jr was nominated for BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE for "Chaplin" NOT Supporting Actor. We still got it right, but we may want to let the ones in charge know that we were right...and they wrote the question wrong! ^_^

But I'm not bitter :P It feels nice to be right for once!

One week! One week until the Midwest Gaming Classic! I'm incredibly excited as I get to try my skills as the Midwest Pinball Championships (B-Class) for the third year in a row. I'm getting determined to get first place now. The first year I entered, I took second place. Last year I went into the final round in first place and crashed and burned my way into fourth place. I've tasted victory, I want it more now!

Of course, the opportunity to play unlimited amounts of pinball and other classic video games for $20 is just too nice a deal to pass up.

So if there's anyone out there who reads this (besides[info]evil_jim ...since he's already traveling with me there), will be attending, let me know. It would certainly be fun to meet up and chat, maybe play a game or two. If you need or want my cell # to call/text me, reply and include your email address and I'll be more than happy pass it along.

So I finally saw Watchmen last night. And really there's only one thing I can say about it...

I wanna see it again!

Ok, so there's actually more about it that I can say. As someone who has not read the book (I will be changing that soon), I was very impressed at the heroes that I've never heard of. I liked the fact that, with the exception of Dr. Manhattan, none of the heroes are superhuman. They're all cut from a mold similar to Batman where they're heroes because of their training and their sense of justice...not because of their powers. Yes, some of the feats that they are able to perform are extraordinary, but they use guns and practical weapons. They don't fly on their own. And they don't have super speed or invincibility. They are in fact...human.

There are so many other things I could go into, but seeing as this post has been sitting, waiting to be finished for several hours (I started typing this at about 12:30 this afternoon), I'll save additional thoughts for later (after I've seen it again and read it.

But definitely go see it!!!

You're packing your bag for that magical desert island that happens to have electricity, a TV, and a DVD player—what five DVDs do you take with you?

So I thought I would be clever last night and park on the street facing the direction I leave in the morning for work. Little did I remember about Madison's alternate side parking...

So yeah, $20 later, I don't think I'll be forgetting that again any time soon.

Dammit!

So it's been a few weeks since I last updated. Since then I attended the magnificent B-Fest 2009 (always a treat, and this year was no exception), and participated in the 2nd Madison GRUE (if you know what I'm talking about, then I don't need to explain it...if you don't know what I'm talking about, you don't want me to explain it). And this weekend is being spent relaxing with movies and friends.

In particular last night. I invited [info]minifig69 over for what esentially was a sleepover ^_^. We watched the amazingly rediculous Can't Stop the Music, starring the Village People. Bailey had never seen this (neither had Becki or Benny), and it seemed like a fun idea. And sure enough, it turned out to be rather well received as a cheesy movie (as expected). I've seen it three times now, and it actually becomes easier to watch each time. Does that make it a better movie? Absolutely not! Just more tolerable and MUCH more easy to make fun of!

After the movie we played some Pac-Man Championship Edition and Worms (X-Box Live Arcade) before shutting our eyes for the night. Of course we both woke up quite early and Bailey and I decided to watch Duck Tales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp and Meet the Robinsons. Duck Tales was just as entertaining as I remember it being (and I didn't know Christopher Lloyd did the voice of the main villain, and Meet the Robinsons was quite enjoyable and I now wish that I hadn't waited so long to see it.

Moving right along...

Life at work has been decent. I found out on Friday that I'm getting my own queue of accounts to work. What this means is that my responsibilty has just increased significantly, while at the same time, it means that my supervisor's confidence in my work has improved greatly as well! After last summer where everything seemed to be coming apart at the seams, it's nice to feel that things are much more stable now.

Overall, life has been good to me lately. I was expecting this Valentine's Day to suck, and instead it's one of the more pleasant one's I've had in a while. I wasn't alone, and didn't feel alone (something I've been dealiing with lately).

Yeah...life's been alright ^_^...and that's a good thing.

Please don't fuck this up...

I'm off to B-Fest 2009. The marathon that has been known to break even the most hardened of movie goers!

Bliss...

I know things are hard for a lot of people. I deal with it every day with the people I have to call. However, no matter how difficult things may get, I beg anyone who reads this to stay away from Payday Loans and Car Title Loans. I've seen firsthand the nightmares that they can cause (my sister and her husband made that mistake and it cost them thousands of dollars that my parents and grandparents helped them dig out of).

These people are fucking loan sharks. DO NOT USE THEM! Not even for cashing your paychecks. If you need to cash a paycheck...go to Walmart (I know there are several people who read this who despise Walmart...but I want people to stay away from those places) and do it. It's cheaper and at least they're a legitimate business.

And if you need more evidence that all these places are, are legalized loan sharks...take a look at this...

I realize it's tough out there. Just please use some common sense. If you're struggling with your bills, regardless of what they are, do not run from them. Call the people that you owe and explain the situation. You might be surprised to see how many are willing to work with you. They want your money and your business...they don't want to send you to collections.

And you if need someone to talk to about it...I'm just a phone call or an IM away.

They announced the film line-up for B-Fest 2009. While I'm going to refrain from putting the list down (I know some people like to be surprised), I must say at least one thing about the line-up...

HOLY $#!T

This year's line-up looks to be absolutely blockbuster! There isn't a single film on the list that I want to avoid or fear. Everything looks wonderfully cheesy, painful, and fun! Less than two weeks!!! I cannot wait!

I don't feel like doing anything at the moment. There are a few things happening this weekend, and right now, my enthusiasm level to partake in any of them is severely low. Part of it is because I need to work Friday (which may or may not mean I'll be going to "Rocky Horror" on Friday night). That also means I'll be missing the munch on Saturday afternoon.

As for other things going on, I'm still unsure on. I'm sure I'll ultimately wind up attending, but it's still kinda up in the air for me. I've just kinda felt like shit the last couple of weeks. I'll figure it out by the end of the day tomorrow I'm sure. For now though...I'm off to work.

Matthew

Edit: Ok, because my work internet computer is too stupid to let me do a new post, I'm going to edit the one from this morning and add this as an addendum...

After talking to a friend some this morning, my spirits lifted considerable. I sometimes need reminding that I'm not as alone and lonely as I've felt I am lately. So I've altered my Friday night plans and WILL be attending the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Majestic Friday night. I realized that I'll have a lot more fun being there and going to work sleepy and tired, rather than not going and spending all day Saturday wishing that I had gone. Besides, I know it'll be fun and dammit, I want some fun!!!

So for those who are worried about me...thank you! I'm doing better though and will get through this just like I get through everything else.

So I was visiting my usual movie haunts this evening and came across the sad news that Ricardo Mantalbahn has passed away. I have always liked him as an actor as he's been in three things that I really, REALLY enjoy. First, he was Armando Gutierrez in the great WB series Freakazoid. He also had a strong supporting role in both Escape From the Planet of the Apes and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. And of course, he is best known to me as Kahn Noonian Singh in the classic Star Trek TOS episode Space Seed and as the single best Star Trek movie villain (and best Sci-Fi villains in general) in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn (one of my all time favorite movies ever, because of him).

It's a shame, thankfully he performed in very memorable characters, and will be remembered for years to come.

Matthew

Trivia: Even though Kirk and Kahn are bitter enemies in Star Trek II, they never actually meet face to face and never share screen time together.
